Many Islands – One Ocean
He wa’a he moku - The canoe is an island
He moku he wa’a - The island is a canoe
"When you voyage, you become much more attuned to nature. You begin to see the canoe as nothing more than a tiny island surrounded by the sea. We have everything aboard the canoe that we need to survive as long as we marshal those resources well. We have learned to do that. Planet Earth is also an island in a sea of space. To survive on Island Earth, we need to learn to be good stewards." Nainoa Thompson, Master Navigator, Hokule'a.
This website is designed to explore the concept of “Many Islands - One Ocean” - we are all connected to each other. What we do where we live affects everyone else on Planet Earth. We will explore our past and our evolving present to find lessons that inform our future - how to live sustainably on Island Earth as we voyage through an immense ocean of space.
