Edgartown School 8th Grade Place Based Narratives
Assignment Description:
A strong sense of place is important for human beings. It is important to know where we come from, and to have a connection with the place that we experience a majority of our day to day interactions. It doesn’t matter if you were born on Martha’s Vineyard, or have only lived here a month, you are now part of this island’s history! For centuries, historians have been tasked with trying to piece together artifacts from cultures of the past. In seventh grade, many of you participated in the “Big Dig” project with Ms. Cunningham. This year you will be following a similar theme. Your place-based narrative will tell a story about a particular experience that you had here on Martha’s Vineyard and why it was significant to your life. Your story will become an “artifact” of this island’s history. I will be making a digital book of your experiences and a detailed map of where they occurred on the island to share with future classes.
